As part of the Catrike Rally Week-end, a group of Lakeland and Polk City riders are offering a Friday ride on one of Florida's top rail trails - The
General Van Fleet. We will start the ride from the Green Pond Trail Head at 10:00 a.m. and ride South to Polk City, take a short break and then ride back to
Green Pond (20 miles total). Back at Green Pond we are encouraging everyone to bring a lunch (remember your car is parked at Green Pond) and we will have a
picnic with the ride leaders providing drinks and desert. After lunch you can stay and socialize, head home, or ride with the rider leaders North towards Bay
Lake Road. This ride can be anywhere from 5 miles if we ride up to the three concrete rail bridges (and the source of the Withlacoochee River) and back up to
20 miles if we ride to Bay Lake and back.
The Green Pond Trail Head is 23 miles from Clermont and less than an hours drive from Winter Garden. It has parking, restrooms, and covered picnic tables along with a cat named Ralph who loves Catrikers! We will provide better directions and mileage from Winter Garden and Clermont as it gets closer to February 27th. Ride Leaders are Mary & Jerry Hayhurst, Jim Mahoney and Will Byers who represents Mt. Olive Shores North, which is a RV community located less than 2 miles from the Polk City Trail Head.
