I spent today, on the first half of a two day ride around Lake Okeechobee. The LOST (Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail) is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to cycling trails in South Florida. Today I rode from Clewiston to Moore Haven on the trail where it ends, then I took the highways 27 and 78 parallel to the lake until the trail started again in Buckhead Ridge. There, I got back on the trail for another six miles and got off at the access point nearest my home. Tomorrow, I'll ride the trail from Okeechobee to it's end in Port Mayaca and then will take the surface streets to Pahokee and get back on the trail to Clewiston and the end of my two day ride. The distance around is about 110 miles or so, more than half of it on the improved trail which is about 14 feet wide, paved and in excellent condition. As I live within a mile and a half of the trail, I'm on it a great deal and have to admit that Florida has some GREAT bike trails....
