My wife and I both use Speed Play Frogs. We would really like to use sandals with them but I have read that the Frogs will not work with any of the sandals
because of the width of the sandals. We use mountain bike shoes with them. If anyone uses sandals with the Frogs please let me know.
What type of pedals are you using or going to use?

The pedals that came on my trike grip quite hard and are probably rough on shoes, the're certainly rough on feet the couple times I have put bare feet on
them. I suspect that if one tried to ride bare foot the pedals would be bloody inside of a mile.
I have special issues about repetitive movement so I find that I need to put the pedal in many different places on my foot while riding. I have yet to see any sort of foot grabbing gadget that would accommodate that other than what I have. |

Since my feet point out so much I use Frogs with the longest knee savers. That keeps my heel from hitting the crank. Works well for me.

psrider- I use the Frogs with the newer Shimano sandals and a pair of new Lake sandals. No problems. I can't imagine what you're reading that say they
don't work!

I use the Shimano sandals with the Speedplay Frogs and have no issues with them. I think you will be fine using them as well. I had read the same thing, that
they won't work,,,,,,but they do.

After riding a few days now with Speedplay Frogs installed, I'm finding that the musculoskeletal benefit is significant. I bought them due to purported
reduction of stress to the knees, which has proven true, but I'm also finding that my lower back pain has been significantly reduced.
The Frogs are a little disconcerting at first. They have so much more float than the SPD side of the stock Catrike combo pedal, I thought my shoes would accidentally come unclipped while pedaling. Now that I'm used to them, I have absolute confidence in their holding capability, and love the range of motion. Great pedals! |

I use Shimano 647 SPDs on my 700. They work for me. However, Bruce has a good point concerning the lack of float with SPDs. I may give Bebops or Speedplay
frogs a try in the future. From what I read they have a lot more float.

Glad you brought up Bebops, Richard! I almost had a pair of them on my 2003 Speed, but the previous owner really liked them, so she kept them. I've studied
their design philosophies on their website and really like them. Elso first introduced me to them a couple of years ago and I've always wanted to try them.
They certainly look bullet-proof as far as crud buildup being a problem. Why don't you get a pair and be our test-bunny?

I just converted to bebops and won't be going back to spd style. The free float is just too good for the knees, feet, ankles, hips etc..
