I fall into two of the categories...it's my first trike and I own more than one bent. I voted for "one of several."

WOW! This thread is 2-1/2 years old, but here's my contribution!
The Speed filled that dream void for me as the ultimate trike for my riding style. I had built a trike a few years ago that was fairly close to the Speed, was made of steel, had indirrect steering, and 20" front wheels. I was getting ready to build a newer generation of that trike when I saw the Speed and decided I couldn't build one much cheaper. Now I own two Speeds! Thank you Paulo for building my dream! The 05 Speed was my first trike! I wish I still had it to go along with my Road and my Expedition.

... I've a 20" Scorcher rear & 16" Stelvio fronts that I occasionally mount on my Expedition. Does that make it a Speed on Steroids?

My wife and I are in our late 50's. We have become overweight, lazy and just to sedentary after we retired. Her suggestion was to buy two trikes to ride
around our neighborhood for alittle exercise. She was thinking of the delta type trikes with the baskets mounted on the handlebars. I decided to explore her
idea and WOW found " tadpole trikes". So after alot of comparison we now own two Catrike Speeds. We love them. However, I have now purchased a used
Rans Stratus recumbent bicycle to ride with a couple of friends that ride DF bikes. I do not have the ability yet to ride my trike fast enough to enjoy the
rides with the friends and their DF bikes. Thank goodness I don't have to choose between my friends and my Catrikes because new good friends are hard to
come by. But, thanks to Catrike Speeds, we are off the couch, riding trikes and bike, thinking differently about more physical activity, and even watching the
Tour De France on TV. Low and behold, we are even seriously thinking about a diet. Yes, we love our Speeds.

Started with a TT, sold the TT, bought a GS GT5, bought a WC Clubman, sold the WC, bought a Speed. GT5 was destroyed in an accident, bought a 700.
I bought my Speed as a replacement for the WC. It became my weekend, push-it-hard trike (44 miles in 2:25 one memorable Saturday). When the GT5 (great trike) got squished I bought a 700 and turned my Speed into a commuter (fenders, rack and Marathon Pluses). Jury's still out. As a flat out runner, the Speed was great, but as a commuter I'm not sure. I think I'm getting tired of daily use of 16 inch tires. And nothing is as solid as a GS. The 700 is a locomotive, but requires a different--balls-to-the-wall--riding style. Definitely not a commuter. I guess I'll have to tell the wife I need a tourer. Something with indirect steering, 20 inchers and maybe a suspension to coddle my tired old bones. Think she'll buy it? |
